Mayor Taylor Appointed to US Conference of Mayors Community-Military Relations Task Force |
Mayor Taylor Appointed to U.S. Conference of Mayors Community/Military Relations Task Force
Mayor Kathy Taylor has been appointed as co-chair of the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ Community/Military Relations Task Force.
Miami Mayor Manuel Diaz, the U.S. Conference of Mayors president, announced Taylor’s appointment.
Mayor Taylor takes a seat on the task force because of a vacancy created by Anchorage, AK, mayor Mark Begich being elected in November to the U. S. Senate. The task force was created in 2007 to examine issues surrounding returning veterans and their needs.
The Tulsa Mayor’s office has created multiple programs and initiatives to benefit veterans and active-duty military personnel and their families since taking office in 2006.
Shortly after taking office Mayor Taylor hired a veterans affairs liaison and created the Veterans Advisory Council to help improve services to Tulsa-area veterans.
Last year the mayor’s office teamed with Tulsa International Airport and private contributors to create a Military and Veterans Resource Lounge at the airport equipped with Internet computers, phones and offering information on resources for veterans and military personnel.

City of Tulsa Dedicates New 911 Center |
Mayor Kathy Taylor hosted an official dedication of Tulsa’s new 911 Center on Tuesday, Dec. 16, and invited those present to tour the center. Its new location is at 801 E. Oklahoma St. in the Lansing Business Park II.
The new E-911 facility has more security features than its previous location on the second floor of the Police/Municipal Courts building. Two security checks are required for entrance into the building. Also, grassy mounds have been placed strategically around the building to prevent a vehicle from ramming into it.
Security at the 911 Center also covers natural disasters such as a tornado. The operations center that houses the call takers, computers, telephones and radio equipment is fortified to withstand an F4 strength tornado. A training room at the center also may accommodate additional call takers to handle a major incident such as last year’s ice storm.
In six to eight months, the new E-911 phone system will be able to locate cell phone callers. The City of Tulsa and nine other governments on the Regional 911 Board purchased this new 911 emergency call management system from AT&T in 2007. Besides Tulsa, other members of the Regional 911 Board (organized through the Indian Nations Council of Governments, or INCOG) are Claremore, Collinsville, Glenpool, Jenks, Owasso, Rogers County, Sand Springs, Sapulpa and Skiatook.
The Tulsa 911 Center serves the citizens and emergency responders from the City of Tulsa, City of Catoosa, and City of Sperry police departments, as well as the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office. Additionally, Tulsa 911 Center services extend to the City of Tulsa, City of Catoosa, City of Sperry, Berryhill and Oak Grove fire departments. EMSA dispatches ambulances through the Tulsa 911 Center.
